Monday, I met up another woman that I met the first time I was in Jakarta and kept in touch with. Ririn worked in the tourist information office at the time and helped me when I was asking how to use the Busway system and trying to decide what places to go and visit in Jakarta. I asked her if she would help me get to the building where my Korean bank has a branch here in Jakarta. When I lost my wallet and was trying to figure how to report it, I was happily surprised to find that the KEB bank has a branch here. Ririn was willing to help me and we set off for the building. Unfortunately when we got there, they were unable to help me deal with the card or replacing it. I had to contact the bank in Korea in order to report the card lost and to go about getting it replaced. Oh well, it was worth a shot. I would have much rather have dealt with the situation in person rather than trying to explain over the phone. That always seems to end up getting complicated for me. But there was no help for it.
After visiting the bank, Ririn took me to a coffee shop she knows, where they use Indonesian beans and products. Local. Cool. Much better than Starbucks, which is both multi-national and uses beans and such from other parts of the world, even if they say they do it responsibly. It's still better to go local. And I finally got to add to my gallery of photos of me with attractive women. Well, there were the women in Australia during my Great Ocean Road tour, but I haven't got the photos of them yet, as they weren't taken on my camera.
After I got back to the hotel, I tried to phone the KEB in Korea, but the help line was closed. There is supposed to be a 24 hour helpline, but the number I called that was purported to be that helpline didn't pick up.
The next day, I did go and phone and got the bank on the line. They can send me a new one. But I am going to have to sit and wait for it. It's going to take about a week. Of course, I really like Jakarta, so I don't mind having to wait here. I will have to find some more things to do though. But I guess I will have another chance to take a photo of the empty street on Sunday.
